Bajaj could launch two 400cc Triumph bikes soon

Bajaj Auto is prepping to launch two new 400cc Triumph motorcycles before the festive season, as per an online report. As we had reported earlier this year, one of these bikes could be the Thruxton 400 which has been spied on a couple of occasions in the past. Details of the second model are not known yet.

As per the spy shots, the Thruxton 400 will essentially be a café-racer version of the existing Speed 400. Visually, the difference comes in the form of a Thruxton R-like Monza fairing, a clip-on handlebar and a flat pillion grab rail. These inclusions, the fairing in particular, seem to have bestowed the bike with some visual mass, something that the Speed 400 lacks. The rest of the aspects like the engine, chassis, suspension, wheels, brakes, fuel tank, and under-seat panels look identical to the Speed 400.

Now, considering Indian riders, especially youngsters, have a special liking for faired motorcycles, the Thruxton 400 should garner decent sales after it debuts. However, it also depends on how attractively Bajaj prices the motorcycle. The aforementioned online report states that ‘the new models will feature updated designs and price points’. If Bajaj places the Thruxton 400 marginally above the Speed 400 and below the Scrambler 400 X in terms of pricing, it will make for an enticing proposition.

To accommodate the production of upcoming models, Bajaj will also increase the production capacity of Triumph motorcycles from 5,000 units to 10,000 units. This expansion will reportedly take place by October, 2024. Now, it remains to be seen which will be the second motorcycle based on Triumph’s 400cc platform.

As of now, Triumph’s entry-level line-up in India comprises the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X which cost Rs. 2.24 lakh and Rs. 2.54 lakh, respectively (both prices are ex-showroom).

BSA Goldstar 650 India Launch: Price Expectation

Classic Legends is all set to bring the iconic British name BSA which will be the third brand in its India portfolio. The maiden product under the BSA banner will be the Goldstar 650 which has already been on sale in the international markets. The India launch and price announcement of the BSA Goldstar 650 is scheduled for 15 August, 2024. Ahead of that, here’s our guestimate about how much Classic Legends might price the BSA.

There are multiple reasons for the Goldstar 650 to be priced very aggressively. Firstly, it will be manufactured locally in India which will keep the input costs low. Another factor that will play a part in keeping the manufacturing costs in check is the conventional cycle parts and simple engine construction. It is powered by a 650cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine which is a single-cylinder unit. Plus, there are other traditional components like a dual-cradle frame, spoke wheels, telescopic front forks, and a dual-pod analogue console with a small LCD, all of which should contribute to low manufacturing costs.

What else will influence the pricing of the Goldstar 650 is its arch rival, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the accessibility it offers. With a starting price of Rs. 3.03 lakh (ex-showroom), the Interceptor 650 is the most affordable twin-cylinder motorcycle in India. Also, the Interceptor enjoys a lot of popularity and Royal Enfield has a solid brand recall. So, to create good initial hype around BSA and get the potential buyer’s attention, keeping the prices extremely low is the best way forward for Classic Legends.

Considering all these factors, we think the starting price of the BSA Goldstar 650 will be around Rs. 2.40-2.60 lakh (ex-showroom), at least for the initial few months as an introductory price. There could be different colour options and the prices may vary accordingly. This pricing will help Classic Legends create a significant mark in the middle-weight motorcycle category and give the Goldstar 650 an edge over the popular Interceptor 650.

2024 Royal Enfield Classic 350 – What to expect?

Royal Enfield is all set to launch the 2024 Classic 350 in India on 12 August. This is a part of the model year update, and we expect the changes to be incremental and limited to a few feature additions and some cosmetic tweaks. Here is everything you should know about the new Classic 350.

The 2024 Royal Enfield Classic 350 will retain its modern-classic styling. The design has an old-school vibe to it, complete with a teardrop fuel tank, round headlamp, and long, curved fenders. That said, we can also expect new colour schemes to set it apart from the existing model.
Features

The updated Royal Enfield Classic 350 will feature LED lighting for its headlight, pilot lamps, indicators and tail light. It will also get adjustable brake and clutch levers from the Super Meteor 650. However, these features will be available in higher-spec variants.

Specifications

We don’t expect Royal Enfield to make any mechanical changes to the 349cc, air/oil-cooled motor either. The J-series engine will continue to make 20.2bhp and 27Nm of peak torque and will be linked to a five-speed gearbox. That said, Royal Enfield is working on a new ‘Project J2’, which will get a bunch of upgrades on the next-generation Royal Enfield 350 models.

Cycle parts

Even the cycle parts will continue unchanged on the 2024 Classic 350. It will be suspended by telescopic front forks and dual springs at the rear. The braking setup and wheels will also remain unchanged. Similar to the current model, Royal Enfield will continue to offer alloy wheels in certain variants.
